Why You Can’t Just Spend Your Way to a Better Trip
Because the best luxury isn’t always for sale.

Sometimes spending more simply isn’t enough to make a trip truly special.
You can book the expensive suite. Reserve the Michelin-starred restaurant. Hire the private boat.
But some of the things that make a trip truly exceptional aren’t sitting online waiting for someone to enter a credit card.
And honestly, those are often the things I care about most.
Getting The Room You Actually Want
Two rooms can be in exactly the same category and have completely different views, locations or layouts. One might have the perfect terrace. Another might be directly above the restaurant. One might get gorgeous afternoon light. Another might technically have the same “sea view” but require you to lean over the balcony to see it.
They’re priced exactly the same.
Luxury isn’t always getting the biggest room. Sometimes it’s knowing which room to ask for.

Getting Into the Places Everyone Wants
There are hotels and restaurants where throwing more money at the problem doesn’t necessarily solve it.
They’re just full.
This is especially true during peak periods when the same small group of exceptional hotels is being requested by travelers from around the world.
That’s where timing, relationships and knowing who to call can matter.
I love a beautiful hotel.
I love it even more when I can actually get my clients into it.

Finding a Really Great Guide
You can book a tour almost anywhere.
Finding the person who can completely change the way you experience a destination is different.
The best guides aren’t reciting facts. They’re reading you.
They figure out what interests you, when you’re getting tired, when to change the plan and when to forget the plan altogether. They know the restaurant you wouldn’t find, the person you should meet and the place you should see when everyone else is somewhere else.
You can’t manufacture that kind of experience.

Being Recognized
This is one of the least flashy parts of luxury travel, but one of my favorites.
Walking into a hotel and having someone know why you’re there.
Maybe it’s your honeymoon. Your anniversary. A birthday. Or maybe you’ve just arrived after a very long travel day and really need your room to be ready.
Great hotels are very good at this.
And when they know something about you before you arrive, they’re even better.
That’s the kind of luxury that doesn’t show up in the room description.

Someone Fixing It
This may be the biggest one.
Travel doesn’t always go perfectly.
Flights get canceled. Weather changes. Boats don’t run. Rooms aren’t ready. Someone gets sick. A transfer goes wrong.
When everything is going well, it’s easy to wonder what you’re paying for.
Then something goes wrong.
Having someone who knows your trip, knows the people involved and can start fixing it while you’re having lunch is a luxury that’s very hard to appreciate until you need it.

Knowing When Not to Spend More
This one might surprise you.
My job isn’t figuring out how to make your trip more expensive.
It’s knowing where spending more will actually make it better.
Sometimes I’d absolutely tell you to take the suite. Other times I’d tell you to keep the regular room and spend the money on the private boat.
And sometimes the famous hotel everyone is posting from isn’t the hotel I’d choose for you at all.

The Best Luxury Is Personal
That’s probably the biggest thing I’ve learned planning trips.
Luxury isn’t a room rate. It’s not a hotel ranking. And it definitely isn’t doing something just because everyone else on Instagram is doing it.
It’s having the right room, the right people, the right experiences and someone paying attention to the details you didn’t even know mattered.

You can buy a very expensive vacation. Creating a really great Posh Trip is something different.
